Sunburn

Upon the ignition
I ponder cognition
Of worlds distant,
Imprisoned within
A layer of skin

Now alight, and unfroze
The skin metamorphose
Into a sight, to those without
There is no doubt
That slowly it's peeling
But beneath the burn
Something is learned
As viscera chars
Leaving no simple scars
What is left is an absence
Of a prison within
Bidding my fare well
To a recidivist's shell upon which
My mind is returning
Sunburning
Flames embellish my yearning
For learning by slowly ever turning
To gear toward learning
Of the freedom of discerning
The within from the outside
In rolls forth a turgid bubbly tide
It reaches the beaches leaving something behind
As gears grind ashen skin,
Ashen skin the sea brought in this swell
My liberation has arrived

Seafoam sea and saffron surf
Spark symbolic sovereignty
scintillatingly I smile at the salience of my sunburn
